Description: BING & GRONDAHL (B&G) 1915 Christmas Jubilee Plate BEHIND the FROZEN WINDOW is the title of the BING & GRONDAHL (B&G) 1915 Christmas Jubilee Plate, commemorating 20 years of B&G Christmas plates 1895-1915. It features the towers of the Copenhagen, as seen through a window partly covered with frost. Artwork by August Hallin. Book Value in 2004: $150 - $180. The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze. Diameter 9 inches. Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the three tower trademark of Bing & Grondahl. The first Jubilee Plate was issued in 1915 to commemorate 20 years of what has become the world’s most popular and longest running series of collector plates. Jubilee plates were issued every five years through 2015, all in the large 9 inch size, each featuring a scene taken from a popular Christmas plate from the past. The 1915 plate features the motif that was used on the very first Bing & Grondahl Christmas Plate in 1895. Many collectors purchase this 1915 Jubilee plate so that they can display this famous scene as a focal point of their collection without having to spend the thousands of dollars that the 1895 plate often sells for. There are a few tiny black dots do common on these early plates, cinders from the coal-fired kilns embedded on the glaze. See close-up photo where most of the dots are circled. There are also a few on the back of the plate. All are difficult to see unless you examine the plate very closely under good light.
