Description: This little girl is Nancy Ann Storybook doll #191, A Flower Girl for May offered by Snowdrift Antiques. She is a 6½" bisque doll with jointed bisque arms and frozen or stiff neck and legs. Her light blond hair is in very good condition with original waves and only a few fly-aways. The mark on her back is reads STORY/BOOK/DOLL/USA. I did not find any chips or repairs on her body. Her outfit is in excellent condition, the organdy and taffeta are crisp. The dress consists of a pale lavender (faded from blue) taffeta underskirt with white organdy overskirt. There is a light blue ribbon bow tied to the overskirt on the right side. The dress closes with a steel safety pin. Underneath she wears white cotton pantaloons. I did not find any rips, tears, or stains on her clothes except two very small pin pricks on the hem in front where a shop owner appears to have attached the price tag, see image 7.On her head she sports a large natural straw hat that is held onto her head with wide light blue ribbon ties.An example of this doll is not pictured on pages 272 or 273 in the Encyclopedia of Bisque Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls by Pardee and Robertson. Book contributor Nancy Roeder, who I knew here in Denver, noted that this version of May was not often seen and was thus overlooked for inclusion in the reference book.Doll stand is included. From a non-smoking home.
