Description: c 1885 Allerton Childs Blue ‘Little May’ with Apron Sugar & Creamer Set Staffordshire Miniature This is a child’s miniature Tea Creamer and Sugar Set transfer printed in a deep medium Blue on a creamy earthenware in a pattern referred to as ‘Little May’ with Apron and Eggs. This set has been played with and is not in perfect condition: the lid for the Sugar is from a Teapot and the Creamer has a 1” “Y” hairline to the side of the pouring lip. You may need these pieces as interim substitutes to help complete a set that you are building, while waiting for the perfect pieces to come along. In the meantime, this set is being offered at a discounted price due to their condition. Both pieces display well. Crazing and minor typical firing and stilt imperfections sporadically may appear consistent with production at the time they were made. Presented as is and as found. The Little May patterns and series were made by Charles Allerton & Sons, Park Works, Longton, Staffordshire, England, c 1885. The Creamer in this set is marked ‘STAFFORDSHIRE – ENGLAND.’ The Sugar with Teapot Lid has the Allerton cartouche with the pattern name and number as ‘MAY’ and ‘753.’ In this pattern, Little May is returning from collecting eggs using her apron like a basket to carry them; there is a farmhouse or barn in the distance. Other areas of this pattern reflect the Aesthetic period in which it was produced and illustrates scenes from nature that the Victorians adored. The Sugar and Creamer are in the Round shape. Dimensions:(1) Sugar with Teapot Lid: 4.5: H There is a piece of kiln frit on the lid.(1) Creamer: 3.25” H There is a ‘Y’ hairline to the side of the lip. Please ignore the white reflections in the photos. This child’s miniature Tea Set has excellent color saturation in the medium blue color. These pieces have been played with and cherished by a child and are in good condition with the exceptions noted above.
