This is a child’s miniature Tea Set hand painted in a the Gaudy Welsh style with colors like the striking cobalt flow blue and orange, and then with gold and copper luster. Made by Charles Allerton & Sons, Park Works, Longton, England c 1885, in the pattern name ‘OYSTER,’ this Tea Set was made at a time when Victorians had a fascination with the Orient, and is sometimes referred to as ‘SMOKING BUDDHA.’ Dimensions:(1) Teapot with Lid: 5.25” H Spout has small chip, hairline to top.(1) Sugar with Lid: 4.25” H(1) Creamer: 3.25” H Toning.(4) Cups: 2” H One cup has a small chip at the rim, (4) Saucers: 4.5” W Slight luster loss on one rim.(4) Plates: 5.5” D Please ignore the white glare marks in the photos. This child’s Tea Set has been played with and cherished by children and is in excellent condition with the exceptions noted above. There may be crazing, toning, and some loss to the luster here and there, and minor firing and stilt imperfections typical of pieces manufactured at this period of time, but nothing that diminishes the display value; this is a very popular pattern Tea Set made by a well-known pottery.
