From 1982 to 1996 the coin is a regular dodecagon (12-sided). From 1858 to 1920 they were large cents about 1 inch diameter. From 1920 to 2012 the size was reduced to approximately 3/4 inch diameter. The obverse of the coin is the monarch of Canada, King or Queen. The reverse of the coin since about 1937 to 2012 with the exception of the 1967 centenial reverse has been an artistic rendition of of a maple leaf branch twig with two-maple leaves. The artist was George Edward Kruger Gray CBE born on December 25, 1880 in London, England and died on May 2, 1943 in West Sussex, England. Besides coins, he made many posters. cartoons, illustrations, coat of arms, and stained glass. The 1967 reverse was a Rock Dove by Alex Colville, a Canadian artist, (b.1920-d.2013). From 1858 to 1936 the reverse had variations involving maple leaves.
