Sedgwick battlefield (1860's). During the very early Indian battles, Ft. Sedgwick (Fort depicted in the movie - Dances with Wolves) had up to 700 men there trying to help protect the South Platte stage coach line & western frontier to Denver and attacks from Indians. This Thimble was use by the soldiers to keep their uniforms together, as the uniform had to last a long time through normal wear, combat, and repeated clothes washings in the nearby Platte River. Thimbles are hard to find. This item was found on private property, with the permission of the owners. Site is now closed to anyone.
