Description: Clark Ashton Smith, Live From Auburn - The Elder Tapes, 11 Poems read by the Author. A one of a kind multimedia set of a cassette tape, CD, Chapbook and DVD. Read On In 1995 Necronomicon Press released an audio cassette of Clark Ashton Smith reading 11 of his poems. Along with the cassette came a 16 page booklet containing the written verse of the poems that CAS reads. It was in the late 1950's that Robert Elder, also a resident of Auburn, California, made some home recordings of Smith reading a number of his poems. Presented here for the first time are eleven of his poems, and as far as I know there are no other live recordings of CAS in existence. The tape also features an audio preface by Elder, describing his introduction to Smith, and how these tapes came to be. Of Course, due to the age of these recordings, their sound quality cannot meet up to modern standards. Yet, the thrill they bring to the listener who, for the very first time has the opportunity to hear one of the great poets and masters of weird fiction, can be amazing. Every effort was made by the audio company to restore these tapes to their original quality. Now for the extras and goodies. The cassette tape plays well, but because of its age and the fact that some of you may not have a cassette deck anymore, I had the cassette professionally transferred on to a CD that is included. The tape is originally approximately 30 minutes long and has the second side identical to the first. So the CD just has one side copied. The booklet is essentially new and in great condition and comes in a plastic protector. Now, also included is a 2 hr 36 min DVD of a CAS plaque dedication that took place in Auburn CA, on Jan 11, 2003. This DVD was recorded and produced by Boyd Pearson. The quality of the video is a bit choppy and a low resolution, i.e. home made recording, but the sound quality isn't too bad. There are 3-4 different sections that show 1) the plaque and its placement and dedication read by Ron S. Hilger 2) Wine Pouring and toast with Clark's friend and fellow poet Donald Sydney-Fryer 3)Personal remembrances and sharing of stories about CAS at the County Library 4) Scott Conners, and others read CAS material. This DVD is out of print and no longer available. All in all a one of a kind collection for a CAS aficionado. Enjoy!
