Description: During the early 1900s, Conn was the largest maker of band instruments and manufactured several models of metal clarinets. The Pan American Special reflected their intermediate level metal clarinet. This serial number 123976 is a solid, well-built metal clarinet with a silver-plated body and nickel-plated keys. While it is difficult to precisely date Pan American models, we estimate that it was made in the late 1940s. We overhauled this interesting and strong-playing clarinet with all-new pads and corks. The mechanism is tight. It has “BPS 271” engraved on the bell indicating prior institutional use. Please see the photographs. It comes with a sturdy case and a Noblet hard rubber. $400 plus $25 shipping within the Continental United States. Please note:As professional repair technicians, our labor to completely overhaul a clarinet is approximately $250-$300. When you purchase one of our clarinets, it has been professionally overhauled with the mechanism tightened, new double skin pads, and new corks. While you can purchase as-is instruments for less, it is likely that you will have to invest in an overhaul either before playing it or shortly thereafter. We don’t cut corners with cheaper supplies or patchwork. When you compare our quality, you will understand why we don’t accept lower “make offers” on our instruments.
