Description: DESCRIPTION: Mexican is an unknown hybrid bulb. It is stately and very tall with beautiful, blush pink flowers similar to Mrs. James Hendry and Peachblow Improved. The white flowers have a blush pink color and open with a dark pink bud that accents the front of the flower after it opens. This is a very unusual crinum, unlike anything else we grow. When mature, it will reward with beautiful blooms ever year from March through December, making it a very desirable crinum having such a long blooming period. This bulb has never been for sale before. We have observed as many as 11 flowers on scapes to 46" tall. Our largest bulbs have measured about 6" in diameter. It offsets regularly, but not fast. We have been growing this since 1999 and it has taken that long to have enough bulbs to sell. We grow over 1000 different crinum, including about 350 of our own hybrids. BACKGROUND: We obtained this bulb from a Houston crinum collector in 1999 who purchased a bulb mixture at a Houston farmers market. GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Mexican will bloom about 9 months of the year. They do fine with our mild freezes into the 20's here northeast Florida, zone 9. We don't know how tender this is, because we have never sold it before. They appear to be very hardy. They are an easy to grow bulb requiring no special care...just plant and forget, like most crinum. It tolerates a wide range of soils but prefers rich soil. Bulbs can survive nicely out of the ground for very long periods if allowed to dry. Like most crinum they prefer full sun, but partial shade is OK. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on a jumbo, blooming-size bulb at least 6 years old and about 3 1/2" in diameter which should bloom in about 1 year. They don't like being disturbed, so it could take one year to "settle in." Bulbs will be freshly dug, shipped bare root and with leaves March-November. In the winter months the leaves may be absent. WE SIZE OUR BULBS APPROXIMATELY BY AGE AS FOLLOWS: A few varieties can take 6 years or more to bloom. Jumbo bulb – has bloomed at least 2 years, close to the maximum size for that particular plant (6+ years old) Large bulb - should bloom this year or next (3+ years old, close to, or at blooming size) Medium bulb - should bloom in 1-2 years (at least 2 years old) Small bulb - should bloom 2-4 years (current year or 1-2 year old offset) Seedling bulb - started from seed (usually in its first year of growth unless otherwise stated) PHOTOS/ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: These are pictures of our plants, so you know exactly what they look like and what you will receive.
