Measures a little over 7 inches high, 6 inches deep and 4 inches wide. Marked in ink on the bottom: D Andrew Rodriguez and dated 1992. The outside is very highly polished; the inside / front less so. We are also listing one other sculpture by him that pairs well with this one. The two are shown together in the last picture. This auction is only for the one with the pot. D. Andrew Rodriguez is an artist from the Native American Indian Laguna Pueblo, village of Mesita, New Mexico. He is known currently more for his unique terra-cotta bas-relief sculpture; this is an older piece that is a full 3-dimensional sculpture. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, where he studied scuplpure under Allen Houser. He completed his Fine Arts degree with Honors at the University of New Mexico. He combines traditional firing and slip/stone polishing techniques into unique contemporary expressions of his Indian heritage. His images use the simplicity of line and form to create movement and subtle elegance. He has won multiple Awards, including 1992 SWAIA; Best of Show - Indian Arts, 1990 New Mexico State Fair; first place in the 2005 Southwest Association for Indian Arts and a Fellowship Award from the same institution in 2001. His work reaches to capture: the spiritual emergence from the essence of human emotion; the restlessness of our journey in the here and now; moments of emotion which transcend time and space to the essence of our humanity; our metamorphosis into the animal world where we transcend from our humanness back into the wild.
