Hans Christian Andersen: A fairy tale come true Hans Christian Andersen has written 156 fairy tales and lived one himself: in only a few years he managed to become an internationally acclaimed literary author and the most beloved writer of the Danish Nation. He was born in Odense, Denmark, on April 2nd, 1805 as the son of a poor cobbler. His parents could not afford to send him to school until King Friedrich VI spotted his unusual talents in 1822 and allowed him a grant which helped him through college and later, in 1828, through University.Hans Christian Andersen was a true world citizen "avant la lettre": he traveled constantly, was interested in politics and committed to social affairs. During his many journeys throughout Europe he came to fall in love with Italy, its people and its culture. From this early period date his first writings that clearly bear Italian influence: These later lead to his fairy tale The Little Mermaid. And it is thanks to his many fairy tales such as The Princess on the Pea, The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, The Snow Queen, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Red Shoe. that Hans Christian Andersen qained world acclaim and local recognition: the Danish King bestowed him with the highest honors: he received a royal literary scholarship and wasnamed titular Professor. On August 4th, 1875 the by then internationally praised author died. His oeuvre was translated into more than 120 languages which makes him one of the most read authors ever. Little known is Andersen's passion for paper cutting: the creation of profiles, two- dimensional scenes or shadows by cutting into a sheet of paper. Like a fairy tale, paper cuttings translate the real world into light and shadow. When he was not writing, Andersen would produce these little marvels in paper of which about 800 have survived throughout the years. Like fairy tales, these clippings are much more than a child's play: they both tell us a lot about how Andersen experienced it to be a human in a far from perfect world. The Delta Collection: The Hans Christian Andersen Limited Edition, offers fountain pens in celluloid combined with white casein *The collection comprise the special limited edition (1KS) which is limited to only 300 fountain pens in black celluloid and offers 3 diamonds placed on top of the clip and the limited editon (1K) comprising 50 pieces in grey celluloidand 50 pieces in green celluloid.
