Description: A wonderful first edition of Dr Seuss' 4th book, The Seven Lady Godivas! The photos in this book are hysterical--they made me giggle as I was looking through it. However, this book didn't sell well when it was released in 1939, so there aren't many copies around and it wasn't reprinted for almost another 50 years. This is the 1939 stated "First Printing", published by Random House (New York), salmon cloth binding. With its original dust jacket priced at $1.75 on the front flap, listing 5 titles inside a white rectangle. First edition points taken from Younger's "First Editions of Dr. Seuss Books". The book is in very good condition: Exterior near fine, binding tight, handsome bookplate of prior owners opposite half-title page, tables are clean without writing or tears, just occasional light pressure marks. The dust jacket is good, with chipping to spine ends and top of back, small tears to spine and edges as shown, light scuffing and staining to rear cover. See photos. PS: Seuss must not have known much about horses, so we will forgive him for confusing a "rear" with a "buck" in the first chapter. And, rou thought Seuss only wrote about Thidwick the Moose? No, nine years earlier, in this book, he introduces us to the ill-fated Thidwick the horse!
