Dwarf Japanese Green Maple 'Mikawa Yatsubusa' Pre-Bonsai Tree

Description: Please note that all of these initial photos were taken as they appeared when they were unloaded from the freight truck in early November 2022 from Iseli Nursery in Oregon. For deciduous trees such as Maples, they were already starting their leaf color changes where they are transitioning to drop them to go into dormancy for the winter. When the new replacement leaves appear next spring, we will take new photos to better show each species great beauty! Please be aware that the actual tree that you receive during the winter time may have no leaves during its dormancy period! A bare tree look is to be expected when placing orders at this time! Species: Acer palmatum 'Mikawa yatsubua' (Old Name: Acer palmatum 'Shishi yatsuba') Estimated Age: About 8-9 Years Trunk Size: About 0.50 - 0.75 Inch Lighting: Mostly Sun to Partial Shade Type: Deciduous Difficulty: Medium Japanese Maples are a traditional favorite for bonsai lovers all over the world. With their dynamic visual differences every season, it's always something new to look at with Maples. Especially their famous colorful transitions as they shed their soft foliage during the fall months. They do that to get ready to go dormant for the winter since all Maples are deciduous trees. 'Mikawa Yatsubusa' means "a small cluster of three rivers" as a description for its habit of growing its leaves in little overlapping shingles like on a roof. Their leaves are a light yellow-green when they first appear and are bunched up at the shoot tips. The leaf nodes are very close together and the new shoots are very short and stubby. This makes for a very dense compact little tree which is ideally suited for use as bonsai! It's more heat tolerant the other types of Japanese Maples; which makes it a prime choice for those that wish to have Maple bonsai in hotter regions! They turn into a medium green color for summertime. The outer leaves have very bright red tis on the fine toothing of the edges. Fall colors are beautiful yellows to deep red, as seen in our November 2022 example photos of when we first brought them into our nursery from Iseli Nursery in Oregon. It has also been known under the name 'Shishi Yatsuba' in the past. Adopt a gentle hand when pruning after all of its foliage has fully developed during the warm summer months due to its very slow growth pattern. It can a very long time develop good ramification. But this is great for those that wish to maintain a small sized Maple bonsai. This pre-bonsai can easily be trained into an informal upright bonsai style. Please note that all pre-bonsai trees will come in a plastic nursery growing pot. For Deciduous Trees: Please note that during the mid to late fall months, deciduous trees will lose all of their leaves/foliage to go into dormancy for winter. They will have barren branches and will be extra sensitive to shipping stress during mid-fall and all of winter. If we try to ship them during this dormancy time, it is considered extremely high risk. We reserve the right to refuse to take orders for these trees during their dormancy period from around October to February.
