Thank You all for your continued support!Elaeocarpus angustifolius is a tropical fruit tree in the Elaeocarpaceae family. Its native range is from the Himalayas to China. Familiar names include Blue Marble Tree, Quondong, Blue Quondong, Indian oil fruit, genitri, woodenbegar, and Indian bead tree. It grows in rainforests, swamps, foothills, and in second-growth forests. It is used for prayer beads in Rudras teardrops in Hinduism. The dried fruits were used in International trade. Cattle ate the seeds then the preferred, colored seeds were picked from the feces to be sold. It can grow to 130 feet tall from a buttressed trunk at a quick rate. The serrated leaves turn red before falling. The racemes creamy-white flowers are egg-shaped, around half an inch long. The bright-blue drupes are almost an inch in diameter. The flesh is edible but not very good. The seeds inside this nut-looking drupe have seeds inside that are delicious, tasting like pine nuts. Each fruit contains 5 seeds. It prefers to grow in full sun with average water needs. Zones 10-11Germination Soak seeds for 3-5 days. Use a nutcracker to just barely crack a hairline crack to pry open to reveal seeds. Sow seeds 1/2" deep and keep them in a bright spot. You can also just plant in the ground and wait 6-12 months for germination.
