Description: American Landscape - A Play in Three Acts by Elmer Rice. Published in 1939 by Coward-McCann, Inc., New York. FIRST EDITION. Hardcover, with dust jacket. 145 pages. The book is in nice condition. There is a chip out of the top of the back of the dust jacket, as shown in photos. The top of the dust jacket is fraying, as is the bottom of the dust jacket's spine. There is light foxing on pages 2 (blank) and 3. There are no bookplates, ink names, pen/pencil notations, or similar flaws. On the inside of the back cover, there is a small (1” x 1 1/8”) sticker from the "Satyr Book Shop" in Hollywood, California, which we think adds to the book's character. Elmer Rice (1892 – 1967) was an American playwright. He is best known for his plays The Adding Machine (1923) and his Pulitzer Prize-winning drama of New York tenement life, Street Scene (1929). From the dust jacket: "Through a New England family and its forebears and the people who cluster around it in a little Connecticut town, Elmer Rice pictures all America." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our father was a bibliophile who collected rare books, letters, and ephemera for more than 60 years.
