Roseville Pottery is truly considered an American treasure. The history of Roseville pottery is well documented and shows that the company was a great American company. The founders of the company were men by the name of George Young and C.F. Allison. The business itself got off to somewhat of a modest beginning, making general stoneware for the home. In 1902 the partners bought out an old stoneware factory in Zanesville Ohio and began making art pottery. The art pottery was fast to become popular, and much overshadowed the Roseville lines of pottery. The Roseville factory was closed in 1910, and all Roseville pottery was to from then on to be produced in the Zanesville factory. Roseville was one of the pottery companies that did not suffer too badly with the depression in the 1930s. This was due to the fact that they had long-established many modestly priced lines of house-ware pottery, and the public could still afford Roseville products. Sadly enough the company would never see the prosperity of the mid-1900s and closed their doors in 1954. Roseville pottery went on to become one of the most popular American potteries to collect and continues to hold premium value on the open antique market.
