Description: I just purchased a huge collection of Fenton vaseline opalescent hobnail pieces in many different shapes and sizes. I will list the entire collection as time permits going into the fall and winter. The Fenton Glass company of West Virginia began marketing the hobnail pattern in the early 1940s first in blue and French opalescent. In 1941 Fenton introduced the topaz or canary yellow which took the markets by storm. Due to World War II, the company discontinued production of this color because of the scarcity of the materials in its making. Topaz opalescent again came back to the market in 1959 through 1962. Once more sometime in the 1980s Fenton again produced this color of glass, however, all the pieces were marked with the raised oval logo usually found on the bottom of each item. There were shapes and sizes different in the later years, however, many of the original pieces came back into production. All the pieces in this collection react brilliantly in the presence of ultraviolet light, as pictured. Most of the pieces will be listed in the BIN format at reasonable values based on current and sold prices of like or similar shapes. A great opportunity to pick up some truly collectible pieces as gifts or to complete a collection of a particular shape or size. So, without further ado, here we go! A very nice piece for both use and display, this covered candy dish is somewhat elusive in the marketplace with both the lid and base together. A well matched set, the dish measures just under 7” tall including the lid and 4 3/4” across the top. After cleaning and inspection, I can find no post factory chips, cracks, damage or repairs. I will point out and this pictured an 1/2” interior heat check near the rim of the pedestal base. I believe it to have originated at production because I cannot feel the check on the surface on either the top or bottom. The inside is clean showing no staining or residue from use. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future. Thank you.
