Description: A beautiful antique Edwardian 18k gold and platinum blue zircon solitaire engagement ring, dated by inscription to 1908. The Victorians loved blue zircons and they became very popular as an engagement gemstone in the 1880s and into the Edwardian era, one of their most famous fans was George Frederick Kunz (1856-1932), Tiffany's legendary gemstone buyer, who so adored them he tried to get them renamed as 'starlites' in respect to their beautiful glittering look-it didn't work and starlites remain zircons to this day! This truly stunning and fine quality antique American Edwardian solitaire engagement ring looks to originally have been a solid 18k yellow gold band ring which was turned into a romantic engagement ring with a gorgeous zircon in a platinum setting. The ring has the most incredible round faceted 2.4 carat Old European Cut natural blue zircon which glows and glitters a beautifully intense starry Caribbean sea greenish blue when it touches the light, the stone is deeply cut so it's easy to lose yourself in its magical depths, the zircon multi-prong in a solid platinum solitaire setting leading to the 18k gold band-a fabulous ring and an endless delight when on the finger! The ring has been romantically engraved inside the band 'S.E.W. to A.R. Nov. 2nd 1908'. The ring has a blurred makers mark '...CO.'? and '18K'. The ring tests for 18k gold and platinum. The ring is approximately a size 7 1/4. The zircon measures about 7.2mm x 7.2mm x 5.6mm or about 2.4 carats. The ring rises about 10mm above the finger and weighs approximately 5.0 grams. The ring is in excellent condition with general light wear. Seen under a loupe the zircon has light wear mostly along the facets. Thanks for looking and please take a look at our other items! Terms of Sale TERMS OF SALE & RETURNS We make great efforts to honestly and accurately describe each item we list. Due to the majority of our items being antique/vintage and often unique it can be difficult to determine age and as such all our items are sold 'as is'. However, if we are not certain about the age of an item we will either not mention an age or say the item is being sold as a later or modern piece and then leave it up to more experienced buyers to determine the exact age. Items are not returnable if it was not of the age/value you were hoping it to be with no exceptions. If we place a date on an item we guarantee it to be of that period or earlier. If you require further pictures or more information about an item, please let us know prior to bidding or purchase. Items cannot be returned for any condition issues either shown in the pictures or mentioned in the listing. As many items we sell are one hundred years or older we will not accept returns for wear consistent with the item's age.
