Description: A very good original Japanese woodblock print of a Samurai circa 1850. The woodblock depicts a rather tough Samurai warrior. He actually appears to be holding his sword in his mouth ! The print is by Toyokuni III / Kunisada. It is fully signed by Kunisada and his printer. I believe the smaller, circular stamp gives a date, though I don't know how to interpret it. The paper is the old fibrous paper used throughout the 1800's. The colors have saturated the sheet leaving a strong ghost image on the reverse. Such bleed through is one of the signs of an authentic antique woodblock. Smooth paper, little to no bleed through, makes it a modern reproduction. The sheet is approximately 9 3/4 by 14 inches. Oban in size. Condition is very good. Please view all posted photos. No fading. The colors are stronger than my photos show. This is out of a portfolio (one of two) I purchased years ago. Most were triptychs. A few, like this one, were singles. There is little edge wear, no tears or repairs. It's a very good example of Kunisada's work. Unframed as shown. Please ask any questions you may have. I'd be happy to answer. The woodblock will be carefully wrapped and shipped in a box. I value the things I sell. Shipping is a flat $19.75 via USPS Ground Advantage with a signature request attached to help prevent mis-delivery and package theft. Should the actual charge be less to your location, I will refund the difference the day the items ship. PLEASE NOTE: I do not sell overseas anymore. I ONLY ship to US addresses. The stated shipping charge is valid ONLY for US addresses. If you are an international buyer, you will need to get a shipping quote from eBay International on the cost to your country. They're reliable and usually reasonable, but it will add to your total cost. Thank you for looking.
