Just remove some of the wax form the end and fluff up the fibers and add spark. The jute pulls off from the cordage and you can cut what you need. The "starter nips" have cordage embedded in the so that the cordage can be cut and fluffed up to easily start them. You can cut them in half and double the fire starting ability. The "nip fire extenders" and be used as a stand alone starter by fluffing up a small part of one end and removing a little bit of the wax exposing the waxed cotton. They also can be cut in half as used as needed. Burn times on the nips is 5-6 minutes. This kit is water proof and will not dry out over time.
