In the winter people are using heat in their homes. Heat dries the air and will dry your culture media. This may then cause surface mold to appear on the media. If you get any, don't worry. Spray some chlorine free water into the culture. This will remoisturize the media and the mold will go away. You can still feed the flies like normal. To combat this from happening at all, keep your culture in an area with higher humidity. Easiest way is to simply place them in a Sterlite drawer. The small drawers and Sterlite material hold in the humidity from the culture.
