Description: This is a wrought iron steel faced coopers stake or bickiron. It has some wear on the face from use and was cleaned up at some point. This tool was used by coopers (barrel-makers) to form and rivet the metal hoops used to hold together wooden barrels. These are sometimes called anvil stakes or bickirons but this style was mostly used by coopers in barrel making. It weight around 20 lbs It is 22 inches long the top is 10" long and 1-7/8" wide. Normally the stake was driven into a stump or wood base when used.
