Description: Ship History: “From Sea Cliff to Barcelona: A Lifetime in Sketches”, artwork and text by Frank Braynard, printed 1995, hardbound with 180 pages. Ship historian par excellence Braynard needs no introduction to ship buffs. He published his first ship book, “Lives of the Liners”, in 1947. Forty-plus books on, this is one of his last. It is filled with his sketches made during world-wide travels. Many of the sketches are not ship-related but there are some gems in here for us buffs. While sailing through the Straits of Magellan on Grace Line’s SANTA MAGDALENA he drew the wreck of the SANTA LENORA. He sketched another wreck, this time of a freighter, while cruising on the combo liner AMERICANA. A visit to Germany’s Meyer Werft Shipyard yielded drawings of the CROWN ODYSSEY, then under construction. The Italian ferry EGNATIA is featured in drawings as well as the cruise ship REGENT STAR, the ex-STATENDAM. Other ships are included, as well as scenery ranging from Russia to Rio de Janeiro.
