Jabez Gorham was a renowned maker of silverware since 1831. The La Scala pattern was first issued by Gorham in 1964 using high quality .925 Sterling Silver, NOT coin silver with which his earlier flatware (pre-1868) was made. This Gorham Sterling Silver Flatware Set was originally purchased at Buffums' in Los Angeles, California by my mother in the late sixties. It was lovingly cared for by only one owner (again, my mother) who used it fewer than a handful of times before putting into my dowry. (Yes, she was totally into that old time tradition.) Although my "dowry days" have long passed, this timeless classic remains. This set includes 109 pieces and is designed to serve 12 people. It features an intricate floral and scroll design with scalloped tip created by Peter C. Gavette, which is sure to impress guests and elevate the evening's dining experience. Although it is crafted from high quality sterling silver, the knife blades, and some of the server parts, are stainless steel as expected. La Scala is a discontinued pattern that can only be purchased from others who have the La Scala pattern silverware or you can buy it piece-meal as replacement pieces. Getting JUST ONE 5-Piece La Scala place setting at the Silver Superstore costs $1319.95, based on a screenshot placed in the PHOTOS, which I took today (9/7/24). This amazing and beautiful set could be yours for at least $2,000 less than what it would cost you to put this full set together, including 2 tarnish-proof solid wood cases. Just buying a set of 12 place settings at the Silver Superstore would cost you $15,839.40, but you would not get any of the extras like a 12-piece set of butter knives, fish knives, and appetizer forks, not to mention any of the exquisite serving pieces, or the wooden chests. Overall, the pieces in this set are in great condition. However, a very few show a bit of tarnish and mild wear, and a some pieces have what look like hard water stains. The stains and tarnish could be buffed out or polished up to show their true luster. (See Photos) We are NOW offering FREE SHIPPING or FREE LOCAL PICKUP! GOOD LUCK!
