( GDR / GDP ) ' CD 3 ' ( disc 3 ) " Replacement-Disc ! " for ( Replacement ! ) inside the Legendary ! Dick's Picks Volume 15 ( Englishtown, NJ 9/3/77 ! ) CD Set release !!! Grateful Dead Fans ! - CD Collectors !! ... & Fans of the Legendary " Dick's Picks " Series !!! As offered here is a rare & unique piece of Grateful Dead Productions Pro-Release History from the Late 1990's Era ! Nearly every Grateful Dead Audiophile is well-aware of the 1999 GDP, Inc. issued " Dick's Picks 15 " CD release - the Beyond-Legendary ! Grateful Dead 1977 Tour stop at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey on September 3, 1977 ( 9/3/1977 ) - but ... few here today ( close to 2-Decades later ! ) are aware of the existence of the infamous " CD 3 - Replacement Disc " which was issued to Grateful Dead Fans - as a kind and above & beyond gesture of audio perfection! Long story short ( or, short story ' long ' - Ha ! ) - this " Replacement Disc " ( Disc 3 ) was issued ' Only ' to Dead Fans ( shipped factory-direct ) who purchased the Grateful Dead Dick's Picks 15 release ( GDCD 4035 ) via direct pre/early order mailorder from Grateful Dead Productions way back in 1999 ! And why was this strange item issued you ask ? Well ... the " Sticker " certainly tells the whole story on this one - reading just as follows >>> " Disc 3 Has A Flaw Around The 5:00 Mark Of Not Fade Away. Please Use This Replacement Disc. " Wow !!?!! I mean ... talk about some Exemplary ! Customer Service by the kind folks at Grateful Dead Productions !! As basically ... the Original First ( 1st ! ) Printings of this 1999 GDCD 4035 had this flaw mentioned on NFA - and ... GDP was not comfortable living with the fact that the Dead Fans who received this release had just received something that was not as audio friendly & as perfect as possible. So ... GDP spent the money & the time to " Make Good " on DP # 15 ! This CD 3 Replacement Disc was sent out the loyal Dead Fans, and this flaw was immediately digitally mastered ( repaired ) for all Dick's Picks 15 printings moving forward. So ... quite a Rare ! piece of Grateful Dead / GDP, Inc. History right here, for certain - and, I suppose it will forever remain a " Mystery " to the Fans just exactly how many of these sets included this audio Flaw ... and just how many of these " Replacement Discs " were actually released. As keep in mind ... this was only issued to Fans who mail ordered this DP 15 Set via Pre/Early Order. Point being, if you are a serious Grateful Dead CD Collector who treasures the rarest of the rare in GDCD items - then yes indeed ... this one is for You ! As it is amazing to me how many serious ( way-serious ) G.D. Collectors that I've spoken with over the last 2-Decades ! who are not even aware that this infamous & very-cool " Replacement Disc 3 " was ever released ! This one certainly speaks for itself as one of " The " Rare ! Grateful Dead Collector CD Treasures ... from G.D. Yesteryear !! Check out the photos provided... & Enjoy ! As for many ... this could easily be one of those rare missing-links to an impressive & thorough " Complete-ist " type Collection. " No Our Love Will Not Fade Away " !!! TRACK LISTING >>> Grateful Dead recorded ' Live ' at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey ( NJ ) on September 3rd, 1977 ( 9/3/1977 ) - 1999 (1977/1999) Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. " CD 3 - Replacement Disc ": CD 3 : He's Gone > Not Fade Away > Truckin' Terrapin Station ( Encore ) And ... here too is a little bit more on the entire Legendary ! & Magnificent ! " Dick's Picks Volume 15 " Englishtown, NJ 9/3/1977 release ! >>> Dick's 1st ' Posthumous Release ' & One of the Very-Best ! " Dick's Picks " Ever !!!!! ..... The Original ! GDP, Inc. First ( 1st! ) Printing -- GDCD 4035 !!! The Grateful Dead treating a Massive-Crowd ! in the New York Area to an Exceptional Concert !! on the 1977 " Terrapin Station " Tour !!! Englishtown '77. Simply mention " Englishtown " in the Deadhead Universe & People-Listen, because they know just exactly what You are Saying !!! This Monumental! Dick's Picks Volume 15 release marks the 3rd return from the fantastic year of 1977 Grateful Dead. The sad part however, is that this is the 1st ' Posthumous Release ' with Dick Latvala " Keeper of the Vault " passing in 1999 and joining Pigpen, Keith, Brent & Jerry. Very sad for us, but maybe not so bad for them since they probably have one heck of a band up there - with Dick's still rollin' the reels ! The inside Liner Notes feature a photo of the completely massive Englishtown crowd ( looks like 100,000's+ of Dead Fans ?!! ) and right next to it lies the following message : " People of Earth.... Greetings from the great beyond. I am contacting you at this time to assure you that all is well and to let you know that Dick's Picks shall continue in my absence just as before. My plans for future releases are well known to my teammates and they have sworn with their blood to remain true to the cause. I hope this release will alleviate any doubts concerning my posthumous powers. " And for the years to come, Dick's teammates did indeed keep this promise - all the way through Dick's Picks #36 ( released in 2005 ). So, I'm not entirely certain if this release was initially " planned " as DP #15 ?, or if it was perhaps pulled out of order and numbered / released ( impromptu ) as # 15 in Mr. Latvala's honor ?? The reason I puzzle this quandary, is because 9/3/77 is an UNBELIEVABLE !!! Heater - a Stellar-throughout Cosmic Chunk of Grateful Dead ! I mean just look at the size of the crowd they are playing to -- totally amazing ! This is a serious Rock-Concert situation, in a serious Rock-Concert region, right at the tail-end of the Rock-Concert Golden Era: the Late-70's !!! There are as many rockers ( i.e. Promised Land - Minglewood - Music ), as there are subtle-sweet tunes ( T.L.E.O. - Peggy-O - F.O.T.D. ) in the 1st Set with exceptional music & vocal efforts. The Music Never Stopped is indeed awesome & powerful ! Set 2 offers a " Rock 'n Roll " History style delivery by the Dead : Bertha > Good Lovin' offers a memorable vocal rap by Weir on the back end while trading with Donna & the Boys. Jerry puts his trademark stamp on Loser ! For the back-end of the 2nd Set ( CD-3 ), you'd just as well go put on your seat-belt because you are in for a ride ..... He's Gone > NFA ( one of the best, seriously. ) -- ( it should be noted that Garcia puts the hammer-down on the MXR Distortion+ pedal ( chords & leads !! ), and to this day I cannot listen to this without getting goose-bumps -- it'll cook your speaker cones for dinner ! ) > Truckin' ( WoW ! ). Then Phil comes out and delivers an ad for the Deadheads to Go & Buy " Terrapin Station " - how awesome, as those were certainly the days. Note : In an effort to honor Phil's request, let's see ?? OK, I've purchased " Terrapin " on vinyl, cassette, CD, CD Again, CD Remaster. Yes, he is right -- it is that important. Then they step up to the mats, and deliver a wonderful & heartfelt version of " Terrapin " as an Encore for the New York Metro die-hard fans. Earth to Dick ... you have been honored in this release. But wait, YOU picked it -- so you actually honored Us in turn, yet once again ?!! And for that ( & this ! ) we say ..... Thanks !!!!! * Item Condition * : This Ultra-Rare !!
