Description: This is a listing for a group of either 3, 6, or 12 Multis Shell Dweller Cichlids (Neolamprologus Multifasciatus)! These guys are juveniles so they'll be about 0.75-1" in length when you receive them. They're old enough that they are beginning to pair off which is the perfect time to move them to a new tank to start their new lives! The video above is a good representation of the fish you'll be getting. The biggest ones are full-grown adults, and the smallest are fry. The ones I'll be shipping you are the middle-sized ones. Shell Dwellers are some of the smallest and most unique members of the Cichlid family. Their habit of making homes out of shells and moving sand to make territories make them probably the most entertaining fish I personally have ever kept, and there's definitely always something new happening in their tank! They aren't the most attractive fish but I do believe they make up for it in personality! Shell Dwellers aren't too picky when it comes to parameters, and the Multis are definitely the most adaptable in the shell dweller family. They require a typical African tropical setup with a recommended higher ph of somewhere around 7.5-8.5 and a temp of 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. I personally have raised mine at a ph of 7.6 and a temperature of 77 degrees so they are likely to do best in similar parameters, but can absolutely adapt to others as long as it isn't too far out of their range! They are a pretty aggressive species that really needs a species-only tank. They don't do well with other fish or in community settings because of their fierce territorial nature. They'll set up their own little territories around the tank and defend them daily, sort of looking like angry next-door neighbors to the surrounding shell dwellers. They do best with a sand substrate because of their earth-moving behavior; they will also move small rocky substrate but sand is preferred. They need small hides such as shells or bits of cut PVC with one end capped to make homes and breed in! They're not overly picky as to shell vs not. I've had quite a few take up residence in Dragonstone before and do just as well as those in shells. They don't typically bother column-feeding plants (such as Anubias etc.) but will uproot plants that grow in the substrate when they move the sand around. Adults of the species don't get very big. Females top out at about an inch and large males will hit the 1.5 inch mark most of the time, in some rare cases I've had males reach 2 inches but typically I'd expect an inch an a half. They do best in groups to feel safe. I personally recommend one shell-dweller for every 2.5 gallons of water. I feel like that typically gives them a nice little area to call their own. All have been home-bred and raised; I know you'll love yours as much as I love mine! -Pictures and video above are of the tanks holding the actual fish you will be recieving.-All will be about 0.75-1" in length.-All fish are shipped via FedEx 2Day in insulated boxes with a heat pack if necessary.-Fish are shipped either double-bagged with oxygen or in breather bags.-I only ship out on Mondays & Tuesdays to lessen the chances of your fish getting delayed in the mail, and to get them to you ASAP!-If the weather in your area has lows below freezing, and/or highs below 40 on the days of transit, I will delay shipping until the weather is warmer. DOA Policy: In the unlikely occurrence that your fish arrive DOA, please simply take at least 2 pictures of the UNOPENED bag showing the dead fish (and any alive) within 2 hours of the first delivery attempt and I will be happy to either replace them or refund you.
