Therefore it is called Jungle Kukri. It is totally unpolished full-sized Kukri. The Scabbard is made of Buffalo hide covered-wood. And, the buffalo horn is used for making handle. It weighs 700 grams with scabbard. The knife carried on operations by all the Gurkhas. It is issued to all British Gurkha Soldiers on enlistment and is retained throughout their army career. Crafted by hand here in Nepal, it has 10 1/2" long blade and 5" long Buffalo horn handle. The dulled scabbard is made of Buffalo hide. All Khukuris have two pockets on the back of the scabbard which hold a blunt steel called "chakmak" for sharpening the blade or for striking spark from flint and a little knife known as "karda" used for skinning small animals such as rabbits. The notch (kaura or kaudi) in the blade near the hilt of most khukuris serves as conduit for the blood on the blade to drip out, thus preventing it from soiling the hilt, as well as a device for catching and neutralizing and enemy blade I strongly recommend that the wooden parts on all kukri are treated with the appropriate oil and wood treatment prior to use. Product Dimensions:: Overall Length: 16 inches •Blade: The blade is made of high graded Carbon steel and has been poured the cold-water temper on the blade that makes the blade very strong. Thickness at spine of the blade is about 5mm from bolster and gradually drops toward the tip and edge of the blade. It's 10.5" Long. The widest part of blade is 6cm at the middle of the blade. The total weight of the blade (and handle) is about 650grams. * Scabbard: A pine wood covered by water buffalo hide •Handle: Rat tail tang water buffalo horn handle and it has 5.5 inches long. This Khukuri however, has a uniquely distinct handle where the metal of the blade in the handle area is flat and not narrow and pointed as in other knives (full flat tang). • Two small knives; Karda & Chak-mak: Every Khukuri comes with 2 small knives. The Chak-mak (blunt) is used as flint tool and sharpener the blade. Using the Chak-mak against the edge of the Khukuri to and fro does the traditional method of sharpening a Khukuri. The other knife accompanying Chak-mak is the Karda that is used for skinning purposes. Information of kukri: All the Kukris are handmade at Nepalese Khukuri House's own factory in Nepal by Bishwakarmas(Burn to kukri makers) of the Kami caste. No machines used to work and shape this blade. They are hand forged and hammered. Therefore, sizes are given as very close approximations. Hand forging will produce slight variations. All the Kukris are made of high grade Carbon Steel and finished quality woods, horn and metal finishing.
