NUMBER OF PHOTOS: 1 COMMENTS / CONDITION: Offered is an approximately 3-1/2"x5-1/2" real photo postcard of Guy Bush, pictured in his Chicago Cubs uniform circa 1930. The original photo was taken by George Burke in 1930, but this card was produced some time later (no earlier than the 1950's judging by the standard Kodak back). Comes from a large collection of such postcards that we will be listing over the coming months, all having standard postcard backs but being postally unused. Wear on these, if any, is mostly confined to minor corner and edge wear, but see scans for further details including condition. BIO: Guy Terrell Bush (The Mississippi Mudcat) was born in Aberdeen, MS and died in 985 in Shannon, MS. He played major league baseball from 923 to 945 as pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds, and appeared in the 929 and 932 World Series. In November 930, writer F.C. Lane wrote in Baseball Magazine about Bush's unique pitching windup: “On the hurling mound (Guy) Bush has developed a curious 'hop-toad' lunge that is unique. When he really bears down on the ball, he actually springs forward and finishes up in a squat position like a catcher reaching for a low pitch. This freakish hop forward would be impossible to many pitchers. Bush can do it by virtue of his lithe and wiry build, his long thin legs." Bush was portrayed by actor Richard Tyson in the 992 Babe Ruth biopic The Babe. The film played up the rivalry between Bush and Ruth.
