Description: Presented is a wonderful English Georgian sterling silver teapot, dated 1804. The pot is made in a classical round cylindrical bodied form, with finely hand chased fluted decoration around the lower half of the body. The handle is nicely carved from rich dark wood, in a flying C scroll, while the spout is straight and plain, with a fine strainer/filter where it joins the body on the interior. The teapot has a capacity of about 2 ½ cups, or 20 fluid ounces/591 milliliters. This piece is in great overall condition. The wooden handle has been repaired professionally at the top and bottom where it joins the pot, but this is hard to notice without close inspection, and the handle is quite sound with no wiggle/give to it. The hex nut of the threaded finial is a replacement. There are no splits, no leaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The side of the pot was originally hallmarked with at least four English hallmarks, but three of these are mostly rubbed and only the duty stamp of King George III's head is partially visible, pointed out in the sixth photograph. The small depressions left by the other three marks are more visible in person than the photo shows. The interior of the lid is stamped with the English lion passant guaranteeing sterling silver, and a date letter I for 1804. The teapot measures about 7 3/4 inches from handle to spout and stands about 4 1/4 inches tall. This piece weighs 418 grams or 14.7 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
