Description: On Tap In The Can, Or In The Bottle was Hank Thompson’s first new release on DOT Records after his short stint with Warner Brothers. The single was released in June of 1966. It became another Top Ten hit for Hank and the first of several successful projects for DOT. At the time, he was the biggest artist on DOT’s Country division and truly helped to cement their inroads into that market. The historic Smokey The Bar album was recorded in February of 1969. Already enjoying the success of the DOT single I See The Everywhere, Hank and producer Joe Allison selected some great songs that dealt with the ever present subject in Country Music of booze and girls. Hank had already mastered the unique Honky Tonk sound that he admired while growing up in Waco, Texas, but combined that with expert pronunciation and his use of alliteration in songs allowed him to create a unique style.
