This house exhibits simplified Romanesque elements in its bold geometry and arched openings. But the decoration is very much in a classical manner. The stately floor plan consists of a central hall running down the middle of the house, with reception rooms flanking it on either side. Half way down the hall a grand staircase leads to the second floor, consisting of several bedroom suites. A back stair leads to servants’ rooms, kitchen and attic. The stone exterior powerfully expresses the grandeur of the plan. The prints you are purchasing are crisp, high resolution black line copies on white bond paper. The original drawings were beautifully delineated in 1961. This extensive set of 9 drawing sheets includes 2 floor plans,, attic and basement plans, 4 elevations and 2 building sections. The original drawings rest in the Library of Congress. As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. This is a house for a large family. Large social rooms occupy the ground floor, with a back wing devoted to the kitchen and a ground floor bedroom. Bedrooms occupy both the second and attic. Rooms are so numerous that it would make an ideal Bed and Breakfast Inn. This house is intended for a flat or moderately sloping lot. This house would be comfortable in a suburban or country setting.
