Description: These magnificent alabaster bookends bring wild elegance to your bookshelf. With nostrils flaring and veins bulging, the stallions’ fiery eyes promise that freedom can never be tamed. Italian sculptor A. Giannelli fashioned these stallions in Art Deco style, creating a stunning equestrian pair of signed horse head figurines. Completely white, the sculptures have the appearance of ivory or fine marble. Each horse head is 5” tall and 3" wide. Each bookend is 5½” tall, 3" wide and 6¼" deep. They are solid: each weighing 2 lbs. The bases of the bookends are ebony black in color and would be a great gift for equestrian lovers. They could also be displayed individually on a mantel shelf or bookshelf. The bookends are in excellent vintage condition and have no cracks or chips. Under bright light there are some very fine surface marks that could also be from the sculpting process. There is also a bit of residue from some previous stickers. Some people list the sculpted material as alabaster while others call it marble. In reality it is both. Arnaldo Giannelli started his own factory that specialized in recomposed stone. Here is some helpful History, Courtesy of Egregia factory website: The pieces that the factory produced originally and today, are in recomposed stone, a mixture of alabaster and marble powder and resin .
