Description: Here is a pair of charming owl-decorated coffee mugs in like-new condition crafted in the 1960s or 1970s by the House of Goebel of Bavaria. Each lovely bright shiny white porcelain mug has a different nocturnal raptor depicted. One is the spectacled owl of the tropical forests so named for the white rings around bright yellow eyes. The other is the barred owl of North America so named for the contrasting colors on his crosswise markings of his neck and breast feathers. Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, crazing or scratches. Each has a slight flared opening and ring foot and measures 3.5” tall with a 3.5” top diameter. The handle extends 1 1/8”. Each has a 12 oz capacity to the brim. The backstamps read “House of Goebel” with coat of arm logo, “Bavaria W. Germany” and in cursive the owl’s common followed by scientific name “Spectacled Owl, Pulsatria perspicillata” or “Barred Owl, Strix Varia”. Thanks for looking.
