Description: Ada Louise Huxtable, Frank Lloyd Wright, Viking Penguin, First Edition 2004, in excellent condition, hardcover, and signed by Huxtable, one of America’s premier architecture commentator/writers.This is one of the Penguin series of short (usually around 200 pages) biographies whose general editor was James Atlas. A great series, it engaged real authorities (who also could write entertainingly) to do biographies of noted men and women, here the now legendary Frank Lloyd Wright. Ada Louise Huxtable was an architecture writer who is said to have been the first and foremost American architecture and urban design journalist and critic. In 1970 she won the first Pulitzer Prize for criticism and later was a MacArthur Fellow. Born in 1921, she addresses Wright with a breadth of experience that makes this undoubtedly the best short biography of Wright. You learn about his Wisconsin Welsh youth in the 19th century, which affected his work so directly, his egotism, failed marriages and dramatization of his life, his career progress, and perhaps most importantly, Huxtable gives a detailed and no doubt authoritative evaluation of Wright’s best and most famous projects. The book is in excellent condition, is a first edition, and is most unusual in that it is signed by Huxtable. Huxtable is a significant person in the history of American architecture and signed copies are said to be rare. Excuse any shadows in my photos of the text, that is my poor photography— all the text is clean and bright. Shipped only to locations in the United States. Shipping free of charge.
