It is based on the planet Hoth from the Star Wars franchise, where the Rebel Alliance had a hidden base that was attacked by the Galactic Empire in the movie Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. The set features a detailed replica of the icy planet that opens up to reveal a miniature playset with several scenes and characters from the movie such as an ion cannon, "exploding" power generator, moveable "laser" cannons and a hangar. The playset also includes five Micro Machines figures of C-3PO, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo on a Tauntaun, and a stormtrooper plus an Imperial AT-AT. The Battle of Hoth was one of the most epic and thrilling scenes in the Str Wars movies, where the Rebels had to fight against overwhelming odds and escape from the Empire's invasion. Luke Skywalker played a crucial role in this battle, as he used his lightsaber and a well thrown grenade to take down an AT-AT walker, buying the rebels just enough time to escape using the ion cannon to clear the Imperial Star Destroyers in their path. The Battle of Hoth playset was part of the Micro Machines Space line, which was launched by Galoob in 1993 to coincide with the re-release of the original Star Wars trilogy on VHS. The line consisted of various vehicles, playsets, and figures based on the Star Wars universe, and was popular among fans and collectors for its accuracy and detail plus the fact that it was among the first waves of new Star Wars toys to be released since the original Star Wars sets. These original 1993 and 1994 sets were later re-released in 1997 with different lighter color packaging.
