Over three hundred years ago, Eizaemon Fukugawa begun hand crafting procelain in feudal Japan. At that time, Japan was feudal state governed by feudal lords. The area's feudal lord became the sponsor and protector of the Fukugawa porcelain. About two centuries and eight centuries generations later, feudal Japan underwent a complete change. Emperor Meiji's proclamation that Japan would become modernized brought about the restructing of Japan government and society. This restructing during the mid 1800's provided the eight generation Fukugawa artist the opportunity to form their own group of potters in a town named Arita, the birth place of Japanese porcelain.
