Description: Japanese Hanging Scroll Kakejiku This is a vintage Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku or makimono) representing a tiger in a jungle under the full moon. The tiger is one of the twelve animals of the Oriental zodiac. Its image is also believed to ward off evil and bad energy. This piece is signed by an artist and two red seals. Kakejiku is a Japanese picture or calligraphy mounted on a piece of paper. Kakejiku was a tool to spread Buddhism in Japan. It has been integrated with Japanese culture as interior decoration. Tokokake is used at the Tokonoma in tatami room. Chakake has Zen words used in the tea ceremony room. Buddha-kake is used in the Buddhist altar.
