She possesses a big, beautiful, powerful, expressive, room-filling voice, especially suited for ballads. Greatly influenced by Patsy Cline, she formed a country music band called the Reclines in 1983, and started performing and recording. Great talent isn't always enough to succeed, so at the time she dressed very goofily and romped around the stage while singing. That did the trick, and she got noticed and signed by a major label. She produced several best selling, award winning, and critically acclaimed country albums before turning to contemporary pop music with her 1992 album "Ingénue." It was enormously successful and in the years that followed she has consistantly found success in just about avenue of entertainment she's tried.
