Description: A rare and somewhat macabre poster Rob Jones did to commemorate Kurt Cobain's death. Jones is best known for designing silkscreen posters and other artwork for Jack White’s bands, as well as other top bands including Arcade Fire, NIN, The Cure, and the Smashing Pumpkins. Info about this poster is hard to find, but evidently it is called "Yardstick" and Jones designed it in connection with a Nirvana exhibit at the EMP Museum in Seattle (now the Museum of Pop Culture). This poster was purchased directly from Jones in 2011. The poster shows Cobain's age (27) in roman numerals at the top, in a circular seal with 3 plant stalks -not sure what kind of plant. Most of the poster is occupied by the number 68, written in tally marks. There were rumored to be 68 suicides in the wake of Cobain's which were in some way influenced by the singer's own. The bottom right of the poster has Jones' signature and the poster number and edition number. These numbers are drawn in roman numerals; this specific poster is a quite low number out of an edition of "LVIII" or 58. Not sure why it's not 68. Jones' posters often have unusual edition numbers. Either way, this is a very rare item. Printed on high quality thick black paper stock, with metallic silver ink. Mint condition, stored flat in a pet free, smoke free environment. Measures 24 x 18 inches. Signed & numbered from edition of what says 58 on the poster, though I have said 68 in the listing title to be conservative.
