Description: `Lady of the Evening,' 1950, by artist Julian Ritter. Julian Ritter was a master draughtsman and colorist, and in the 1950's he was commissioned by mobster Benny Binion to create a series of Salon Paintings, consisting of Nudes, Showgirls, and Clowns, for the newest and largest Casino in Las Vegas, the Silver Slipper. Binion's direction were simply to create amazing works of art worthy of the finest Bordello's in Paris. That's exactly what Julian did. The 50's are known as Julian's Golden Age, and this painting is the premier piece in the SILVER SLIPPER COLLECTION. This painting hung in the Entry of the Silver Slipper Casino from 1950 until 1988, along with `Showgirl Dreams.' The Silver Slipper Collection began with the sale of 13 paintings in 1950. The Silver Slipper Casino was the largest and most elaborate of any Casino in Las Vegas when it was first built. Benny Binion requested that Julian include Nudes and Clowns in the Collection of Paintings he was creating for the Slipper. Julian, wished to honor Ladies of the Evening, and painted one of his favorite models and muses, Zusie, whom he had a long standing relationship with. She posed every day over the course of three months at Julian's home in Santa Barbara. When Howard Hughes bought the Silver Slipper he was so enthralled by Julian nudes and in particular this painting no doubt because of Zusie's uncanny resemblance to Hughes paramour, Jane Russell, that he took the Mob to Court to retain procession of the Silver Slipper Collection. This painting in directly painted in Oil on Masonite, and glazed in Layers, and painted back into by Julian to create a rich patina of color only Julian could ever produce. Make no mistake, over the years, many artist have tried to reproduce the amazing work Julian was known for. None have succeeded. Howard Hughes acquired the Silver Slipper Casino in his properties acquisition of Las Vegas and was forced to go to court to retain the paintings after the purchase of the Silver Slipper. I purchased the Silver Slipper Collection from the Summa Corp., after Howard Hughes passed and his estate was settled. This is an unique, Original oil painting, which has not been seen in Public since I purchased the collection in 1988. Now may be your only chance to own a true piece of art, and Las Vegas, history. Greg Autry purchased the Silver Slipper Collection from the Summa Corporation after the mysterious death of Howard Hughes, and upon the Settlement of the Hughes Estate. Under armed guard Greg Autry personally removed each piece from the walls of the Silver Slipper, where they had hung since the early 1950's. Julian Ritter originally sold the paintings to Benny Benion, who owned the Slipper at the time. Learn more about Julian Ritter and the Silver Slipper Collection at the Julian Ritter dot com website.
