This set is in very good shape with light wear. The box is a bit rough, but the trains work. The train goes forward & forward with whistle OR backwards & backwards with whistle depending on how you hook up the wires. It does not go forward & backwards without switching the wires. However, I know nothing about trains, so it is likely I'm doing something wrong. I do not know how to make the smoke work, so I didn't even try. There is lots of EXTRA straight track included. Since nothing is perfect, be sure to use the zoom feature to look at any & all cosmetic issues. With all of the extra track, this has a shipping weight of 16 lbs, thus the high shipping cost.
