Issue includes Paul Rand advertisement, Letter form London by Mollie Panter-Downes, book review by Edmund Wilson, A. J. Liebling, "Daphnis and Chloe" by Sylvia Townsend Warner, and more... Prior owner's signature in pencil to the front cover. VG $27.5 May 6, 1944 - Peter Arno cover illustration of New Yorkers basking in the spring sun in Central Park. Issue includes a P-51 (Pen and Plane) advertisement, Paul Rand Coronet Ad, art review of Max Ernst's paintings, theater review by Walcott Gibbs, and more... Light wear to the spine edge; prior owner name penciled top edge of cover. Cover is especially vibrant. VG to VG+ $25 May 13, 1944 - Perry Barlow cover of a married couple planting their terrace Victory Garden. Issue includes Irwin Shaw short story "Walking Wounded," David Lardner film review of Bing Crosby classic "Going My Way," poetry by Maxwell Anderson, and more. Small pencil signature to top corner of front cover. VG $22.5 June 17, 1944 - Garrett Price illustrated cover of a sailor bring back a hookah and other exotic gifts to his family. Issue includes first mention of JFK and the PT-109 story in John Hersey's "A Reporter at Large: Survival," Sally Benson story "A Feeling of Space," Letter From London (the first after D-Day) by Mollie Panter-Downes, and more... Archival paper tape mend the length of spine; other paper tape mends to cover edges and to a number of pages which have a short closed tear at the front edge. Stresses to the cover; covers detached from the page stock.
