Description: Young healthy seedlings of 3 different Oak species. White Oak (Quercus Alba), Northern Red Oak (Quercus Rubra), and Swamp White Oak ( Quercus Bicolar). The parent tree (for the nuts harvested to grow these) are in zone 5 Wisconsin and are huge, probably 150-200+ years old and have survived winters of -40F and summer heat of 100+F. So if you are somewhere in that range, they should grow well for you. They are raised in an air-prune bed which results in the best quality seedlings for transplanting. The bottom of our raised beds as pictured, have wire mesh bottoms 1/4" squares. When the tap root hits the air it stops growing and the tree starts to send out more lateral roots. Then when the seedling is transplanted to it's new home, the taproot senses soil again and continues to grow. Nut trees have long taproots and require deep pots to grow seedlings and ship. With shorter pots the taproot gets misformed because it will circle around inside the pot. Larger trees 4 ft or more will need the taproot to be cut to be potted or transplanted. Yikes!!! Severely hurts the tree for life or many times kills it right there. Any small seedling in less than a 16"-20" deep pot has taproot issue!! We can transplant these trees with the root balls intact including the air-prune taproot. It will be wrapped in paper towel, plastic to maintain moisture in shipping, and held closed with a rubber band. Simply take off the plastic wrap and rubber band, take a little garden trowel, dig a little hole and plant it. Easy Peasy!!! If you do not specify when ordering you will get one each of the mentioned above. If you choose to mix and Match message when ordering what mix you want. Or just all of any one of the 3 as well. For larger orders of 20 lots of 3, please message us with what you need, we will see what we can do for you. Time is now to order and get these growing at your place!!
