Description: Nicolas Markovitch, Serbian / French (1894 - 1964), artist, watercolorist, architect and block printer. Markovitch used more than a few pseudonyms over the course of his career, such as; A. Marc or just Marc, and J. Philippe or Jean Philippe. Markovitch was an architect who worked and lived in France, and is primarily known for his architectural paintings of city buildings, cathedrals and monuments, along with Swiss, Italian, German, English and Belgian landscapes, cityscapes, mountainscapes & seascapes, lake & marine scenes, and many scenes in the U.S. especially cityscapes of New York City and other places such as Gloucester, MA. He was one of the best water colorists of the time and went on to do a lot of work with the Stehli Brothers company Stehli Frères, Editeurs, Zurich, Switzerland throughout the 1930’s and 40’s. Stehli Frères published many different watercolor series of his works, and they were printed in various sizes. Presented are two (2) Framed MCM Seaside Scene Watercolor Prints by Nicholas Markovitch (Marc). The prints are almost 10" x 10" in size (these are the dimensions of the printed area) and the outside of the frames are approximately 15" x 15". The frames are approximately 1 1/2" thick and have non-glare glass. There is a printed copyright circle C (and the Stehli Freres logo (STFZ) in either the bottom left or bottom right. Unlike some of the other prints I have seen by Stehli Freres, there is no backstamp to indicate a Series number or an actual print location. The 'Marc' signature is either in the bottom left or bottom right opposite the copyright stamp. The frames are not perfect, but are in nice condition for their age. They appear to have been stained, and in some areas feel a little bit rough. They appear to have a poly or lacquer coating on them. There is a glossy gold interior border on the frames. The frames definitely have a MCM look to them, but are somewhat on the rustic side. The prints appear to be in good condition, but please review photographs carefully to assess overall condition.
