Microace a9513 JNR Steam Locomotive D51-838, NIB, n scale, ships from the USA

Description: the d51 is arguably the most famous steam locomotive in Japanese railroad history; it certainly was the most numerous. over 1000 were constructed between 1936 and 1945 primarily by Kawasaki Heavy Industries...used primarily in freight service, the "degoichi", the d51 nickname in japan, served for 40 years, ending its career primarily in Hokkaido island, where electrification of the mainlines occurred last among Japan's 4 main islands. with over 1000 locomotives being constructed during the ten year building period, the d51 underwent several iterations during its storied history....this d51-838 was manufactured by takatori in-house manufacturing group in 1943, at the height of wwll with the united states, and is preserved at niimi city, okayama prefecture.......the unique marking and adornment is indicative of service hauling the emperor's personal train......... Micro Ace is one of the dominant triumvirate of n scale manufactures in Japan - Kato and Tomix both being better known outside of Japan....Micro Ace clearly markets the broadest line of locomotives among the 3 and arguably features the fine....st detail work on their products. i acquired this model from a very large reseller in japan who frequently eschews any evaluation of model railroad product......upon arrival, the model was decidedly prepossessing - pristine outer shell, details, and wheel sets - from all appearances, unused...... the test run manifested smooth and consistent operation at 29% on the rheostat for n scale factored operating speed with smooth and conisitent operation......the japanese flags on display as part of the emperor's livery evince the normal slight misalignment of the right flag caused by its interface with the top half of the jewel case.........the head lamp was comparatively vibrant although the dull orange characteristic of pre chip led design....... the only accessory for this a9531 is a rapido coupler for the front of the locomotive whose assembly protocol will have to be largely intuited as microace provides only a rudimentary sketch..........
