Description: Unissued Stock printed by J. W. Middleton & Company. Branch Line of the Northern Pacific Railroad. The Missoula and Hamilton Railway served as a branch line within the Northern Pacific Railroad System. This railway operated in Montana from 1911 until 1916. In an effort to extend the line, the railroad transferred its surveys and right of way for a proposed route to the Northern Pacific Line. Regrettably, no rail construction occurred along this proposed route until after the railroad was sold to the Northern Pacific Railroad on November 1, 1916. The Northern Pacific was a corporation established in the State of Wisconsin, with its main office located in St. Paul, Minnesota. Initially incorporated as the Superior and St. Croix Railroad Company, it later adopted the name Northern Pacific Railway Company. The NP System provided a transcontinental route connecting St. Paul and Duluth in Minnesota, as well as Superior in Wisconsin, to various points on the North Pacific Coast, including Spokane, Tacoma, Seattle in Washington, and Portland in Oregon.
