"10EEs were being built during WW2. Material and component shortages caused the design of 10EEs to vary from month to month. In 1941, the massive hydraulic/hydrostatic variable-speed unit manufactured by Sundstand that provided the variable speed drive for 10EEs up to that time was replaced by a three-phase AC motor driving a 3 HP DC generator which provided power for an electronic variable-speed DC motor for the lathe. These are today referred to as, the “Motor-Generator” drive units. There are many of these still around for sale in the used machinery marketplace.
