This is Another’n of the Tom Garner collection. Garner was a friend of Crews’ and was a Texas defense attorney. He was a book collector and had Crews sign his books to him with some really fun sometimes wild inscriptions. This one reads, “For Tom, Buddy, these books have ruint you mind…” . Naked in Garden Hills is Crews’ scarce second novel. There was two printings of this novel, this being the scarcer first printing. It was met with generally positive reviews, as was the Gospel Singer before it. Crews has developed a cult like following over the years and his work was largely inaccessible as there was never a mass release of his work in recent years. However, Penguin Classics has released The Gospel Singer and Childhood in paperback editions, which is bringing a larger base of readers into the fold of Crews readership. . This item comes with a hard clamshell case. The name is spelled wrong on the case label (Cross) which is easily replaceable, but still annoying. The case is in about fine condition with marble interior. The Book is in about NF condition with some foxing to pages and some edgewear. Some wear at spine ends, but truly is a remarkable copy given the cheap materials Morrow used in the binding process. The Dust Jacket is not price clipped, and is in about fine condition save trace toning to the spine. No tears or creases. Touch of rubbing. A really nice piece and one that is very difficult to track down in this condition and signed and inscribed! .
