Description: Author John Ham’s latest and likely last book culminates more than 20 years in railroad book publishing. A life-long resident of Hunter, NY, Ham’s compendium began with a book (Light Rails and Short Ties – long out of print) on the narrow gauge lines that served the Catskill Mountain resorts and industries north of the junction with the Ulster & Delaware Railroad at Phoenicia, NY such as the Stony Clove & Catskill Mountain, the Kaaterskill, and the Catskill & Tannersville railroads. He also covered the Otis Elevated Railroad; and the Catskill Mountain and Cairo railroads. In 1932, the New York Central took over the U&D and the former narrow gauges which had been standard gauged or abandoned. While Ham worked on other books on the NYC, he continued his research and networking on those 3-foot lines. This new book defines the penultimate story of all those narrow gauge lines, supported by many new images, maps, and ephemera. It brings together a lifetime of collecting and taps into the photo archives of a staunch group of like-minded historians to bring this work into print. This is a very limited print run. This is a 304-page, laminated hardcover, printed on gloss paper. New shrinkwrapped copy. Retail is $89.95. Depot Square Publishing has been in the railroad book business since 1994.
