These are typical "southeastern tribes" ceremonial/social dance gourds...with river rocks inside (rounded flint/chert from riverbed)...gourds are dried cleaned inside - scraped inside - - gourds are lightly coated a couple times with olive oil (unless they are going to be painted). Sticks are sanded and carved and sometimes stained. Pine handles are usually covered by leather. "Plugs" for the ends of the gourd by the handle are hand-carved from cedar or another hardwood.The gourds are dried for a period of months and washed at least twice...then they are worked on.How to care fir your gourd: coat with light oil (Olive, soy, corn) to keep them in great shape for years. Always give you the greatest sound.
